Help pages: Pathista vs a Custom GPT

Updated

Pick a Custom GPT when you can write the task down as one set of instructions and you are there to watch it. Use Pathista when a process has steps that must happen in order, loops or a record. A Pathista run keeps its position on a server, shows one step at a time and works in ChatGPT and Claude.

Side by side

Six points compared, Pathista in the first column. Statements about the other product were checked against its public documentation on 22 October 2026.
PointPathistaCustom GPT
Does the assistant see only the current step? Yes. During a run the server hands over the current step and the ways out of it, not a later step. Not described in the documentation we read. The Actions page describes customizing a GPT with instructions, documents as knowledge and third-party services.
Can the process loop or branch, with the routes enforced outside the model? Yes. Steps form a graph, loops are allowed, a way out can carry a condition on a variable, and the assistant can take only the ways the server offers. A GPT with an action can decide which API call is relevant to the user's question and then generate the input for it. A process graph with enforced routes is not described there.
Is progress kept outside the chat? Yes. The position, the variables, the notes and the history stay in your Pathista account, so a run can go on in a later message, or in a later chat once you pick the open run. Not described in the documentation we read.
Is evidence required to close a step? For checklist items, yes: an item closes only with evidence of at least 15 characters, and a bare “done” is refused. Pathista does not judge whether the evidence is true; it keeps it in the log. Not described in the documentation we read.
Where does it work? ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code, through one MCP address. The documentation we read describes Custom GPTs only in ChatGPT: they enable users to customize ChatGPT for specific use cases. Pathista is added to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server.
Setup effort An account, one connection for each assistant, and a workflow: write one, or add a template and edit it. Done in ChatGPT: the Actions page describes giving the GPT instructions, attaching documents as knowledge and connecting third-party services.

When a Custom GPT is the better choice

You can write the task down once and you are there to watch it.

When Pathista is the better choice

  • The order of the steps matters and you do not want the later steps in view early.
  • A loop must end, for example with a condition such as iteration < maxIterations, or a branch may open only when a variable says so.
  • The process runs over days and several chats and should be on a page you can open.
  • Checklist items need written evidence that stays in a log.

A real example: a release

The Release checklist template is the same release process the release guide describes. Checked against the template on 22 October 2026:

  • Tests run on the release commit. Red tests send the run to a fix step and back to the tests while testRound < 3, a counter the assistant raises in the fix step; after three rounds of fixes the only way out is to stop and report.
  • The way to the publish step is open only while testsGreen and userConfirmed are both true; the assistant sets those two variables from what happened in the chat.
  • The tag step tells the assistant to compare the tag with the commit id of the green test summary and to go back to the tests if they differ.

The template

9 steps

The Release checklist for a Claude Code project template has 9 steps and 22 checklist items. Add it as your own workflow and edit it.
