Pathista vs Claude Projects and Skills - Pathista help center
Updated
Use a Claude project when you want standing instructions and knowledge, and a Skill when you want know-how to apply when it is relevant. Use Pathista when a process must go step by step with its position kept outside the chat. A Pathista run controls where in a process the assistant is.
Side by side
| Point | Pathista | Claude Projects and Skills |
|---|---|---|
| Does the assistant see only the current step? | Yes. During a run the server hands over the current step and the ways out of it, not a later step. | Project instructions: Claude will use these instructions for all the chats within the project. A Skill loads information in stages as needed: its name and description first, its instructions when Claude finds it relevant, bundled files when they are referenced. Neither page describes handing over one step at a time as a process advances. |
| Can the process loop or branch, with the routes enforced outside the model? | Yes. Steps form a graph, loops are allowed, a way out can carry a condition on a variable, and the assistant can take only the ways the server offers. | A Skill can bundle scripts: Scripts run through bash, and only their output enters context. Enforced routes are not described. |
| Is progress kept outside the chat? | Yes. The position, the variables, the notes and the history stay in your Pathista account, so a run can go on in a later message, or in a later chat once you pick the open run. | Context is not shared across chats within a project unless the information is added into the project knowledge base. |
| Is evidence required to close a step? | For checklist items, yes: an item closes only with evidence of at least 15 characters, and a bare “done” is refused. Pathista does not judge whether the evidence is true; it keeps it in the log. | Not described in the documentation we read. |
| Where does it work? | ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code, through one MCP address. | Skills are available across Claude's agent products, and custom Skills do not sync across surfaces. |
| Setup effort | An account, one connection for each assistant, and a workflow: write one, or add a template and edit it. | A project: setup is not described in the documentation we read. A Skill: Every Skill requires a SKILL.md file with YAML frontmatter, with a name and a description; custom Skills in claude.ai are available only with code execution enabled. |
When a project or a Skill is the better choice
- You want standing instructions and files for a topic you keep returning to: the help article says Claude will use these instructions for all the chats within the project.
- You want know-how that Claude applies when it is relevant, such as a house style or a document procedure, possibly with bundled scripts. Skills are folders of instructions, scripts, and resources.
- You want no extra connection to set up.
When Pathista is the better choice
- A process must be walked in order, one step at a time.
- A loop needs a limit, or a way on may open only under a condition.
- The record of what was done should survive the chat and be readable on a page.
- The same process should run in ChatGPT as well as in Claude.
A real example: customer interviews
The Customer interview synthesis template is described in the interview guide. Checked against the template on 22 October 2026:
- A counter, interviewsLeft, drives a loop: the run returns to the next interview until every interview has a card.
- You check a sample of quotes against the original notes, and a mismatch sends that card back for up to three rounds; after that the step tells the assistant to remove the quotes that still do not match.
- The themes step instructs that a theme needs at least two different interviews.
The template
6 stepsThe Customer interview synthesis template has 6 steps and 18 checklist items. Add it as your own workflow and edit it.
