Help pages: Pathista vs a prompt checklist

Updated

A pasted checklist is enough for a short list you can watch, once. Pathista is better when the list is long, repeated, branches, spans several chats or must leave a record. A pasted prompt gives the assistant the whole list. A Pathista run shows one step and keeps the evidence.

Side by side

Does the assistant see only the current step? Yes. During a run the server hands over the current step and the ways out of it, not a later step. No. In a pasted list the whole list is in the chat from the start.
Can the process loop or branch, with the routes enforced outside the model? Yes. Steps form a graph, loops are allowed, a way out can carry a condition on a variable, and the assistant can take only the ways the server offers. Only as far as the model keeps to the text: a pasted list has no rule outside the model that blocks a skipped step or an endless loop.
Is progress kept outside the chat? Yes. The position, the variables, the notes and the history stay in your Pathista account, so a run can go on in a later message, or in a later chat once you pick the open run. No. With a pasted list the position is in the conversation, and a new chat starts without it unless you paste it again.
Is evidence required to close a step? For checklist items, yes: an item closes only with evidence of at least 15 characters, and a bare “done” is refused. Pathista does not judge whether the evidence is true; it keeps it in the log. Only if the prompt asks for it, and then the answer is the assistant's own report.
Where does it work? ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code, through one MCP address. Anywhere you can chat.
Setup effort An account, one connection for each assistant, and a workflow: write one, or add a template and edit it. None: paste the text.

When a pasted checklist is the better choice

A plain list needs no account and no connection, and for a small job it is the right size.

  • The list is short enough that you can watch every item.
  • It is one chat, and you are watching.
  • Nothing is lost if an item is skipped.

When Pathista is the better choice

  • The list is long or repeated.
  • There are branches or loops.
  • The work runs over days and several chats.
  • Someone else must be able to check afterwards what was done.

A real example: buying a used car

The Big purchase template turns a long checklist into a process. Checked against the template on 22 October 2026:

  • Each candidate goes through listing facts, red flags, questions for the seller, history checks and an inspection, one step at a time.
  • Each early check has a way out straight to the verdict for an automatic reject, so a scam listing need not be taken to an inspection; the assistant chooses between the two ways.
  • The way from the shortlist to the next candidate is open only while candidatesLeft > 0.
  • The route that ends in a purchase passes through an approval gate before any payment or signing; the routes that end the search are labelled as buying nothing.
